Itinerary Details
Day 01 – Colombo-Arrival
Welcome at Colombo Airport Sightseeing Tour of Colombo
Arrive at Colombo international airport, you will be received by the representative of LuckyTrip and would be further assisted & transferred to your hotel.
Later take a guided tour of Colombo visiting the Commercial area of the “Fort” it is name named “Fort” as the Dutch and Portuguese both had a Fort at this place. Also drive passed through “Pettah” it is a busy Oriental market with a jumble of ancient vehicles, Humanity, mosques & temples and bargains. Take a tour of Hindu temple & Jumi-UL-Alfar Jumma Mosque.
The other attractions of the tour would be Wolvendaal Dutch Church, to the housing area of Cinnamon Gardens, Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Hall, Hultsdorf Law courts and the Independence Square.
Day 02 – Colombo-Anuradhapura-Dambulla
(05 HRS Drive)
After Breakfast leave for Anuradhapura. Take a city tour of Anuradhapura -this was the first capital and arguably one of the grandest cities in the ancient Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura has got two World Heritage sites. It also has several historical and archaeological places. Sri Maha Bodhi (Sacred Bo-Tree) which is more than 2,200 years old and believed to be the oldest historically documented tree of the world was brought as a sapling of the tree under this Siddhartha (Childhood name of Lord Buddha) gained enlightenment. In the 02nd century B.C Brazen Palace – one can view the superb multi-storied monk’s residence. Ruwanweliseya (2nd century B.C) is the quite popular amongst Dagobas. It firstly depicted the ideal ‘bubble shape” which current restoration has not been successful to correctly reproduce. ‘Samadhi’ Buddha statue of 4th century AD is the very well known statue that depicts Lord Buddha in a state of ‘Samadhi’ (Deep Meditation). Also visit the 03rd century B.C Isurumuniya rock temple – this temple is famous for the rock carvings based on ‘The Lovers’ and the 06th century AD Kuttam Pokuna – twin ponds – this was a bathing pool for the Buddhist monks. The 03rd century B.C Thuparama Dagoba is a biggest attraction, because this is the oldest Dagoba in the island enshrining the right collarbone of the Buddha. Arrive at Dambulla, check in at Hotel.
Day 03 – Sigiriya-Dambulla
Excursion to Sigiriya (01 HR Drive)
Have breakfast and drive to Sigiriya. Ascend the 5th century old Sigiriya rock castle (An UNESCO World Heritage Site). This fortress was constructed by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). This ‘Lion Rock’ is a fort of extraordinary beauty standing 200 metres from the scrub forest. Here see the world famous frescoes which are ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya. Afternoon transfer to Polonnaruwa castle (An UNESCO World Heritage Site) – this was the second capital city in Sri Lanka made during 11th and 12th centuries AD. One may also see here the Royal Palace’s ruins, the Gal Viharaya – here four marvellous statues of Lord Buddha as ‘Sedentary’ ‘Recumbent’ and ‘Upright’ postures carved on the rock, the Lotus Bath, the statue of King Parakramabahu, the Audience Hall and the Parakrama Samudraya lake made by the great King Parakramabahu. Here you can see few other famous places of worship like Shiva Temple, the Watadage, the Lankathilake, the Kiri Vehera, the Galpotha and the ruins of an ancient temple of the Tooth Relic.
Day 04 – Dambulla-Kandy
Drive to Kandy (02 HRS Road Trip)
In the morning proceed for Kandy stopping on the way to see the Dambulla Cave Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Sites).
Ascend up to the temple – this was donated to Buddhist monks in the 1st century BC by King Walagambahu. Dambulla cave temple is undoubtedly the most imposing cave temples in Sri Lanka. The cave complex has five caves over 2000 sq. metres of painted walls and the ceiling of these caves is the largest area found in the world of paintings. These caves have more than 150 images related to Buddha.
Finally, arrive at Kandy check in to the hotel.
Day 05 – Kandy
Sightseeing Tour of Kandy
Today take a sightseeing tour of Kandy (a World Heritage Site). This city was the last capital of the kings in Sri Lanka. The Kandy name tells the dream of magnificence and splendour.
Visit the Lake of Kandy made in 1798 by the last king of Sinhala Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, Kandy town & its Bazaar, the crafts & arts canter, a gem museum, a lapidary and the Royal Botanical Garden – this was initially built by a Sinhala king as a pleasure garden and the British expanded it. It is spread in 147 acres and offers a remarkable variety of plants, flowers and trees.
Later in the evening hours enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan Cultural Dance Show & the Temple of the Tooth Relic.
Day 06 – Kandy-Nuwara Eliya
Drive to Nuwara Eliya (03 HRS)
The next destination of the tour would be Nuwara Eliya. On the way see a Tea Factory, here the best tea is produced in the world. You may learn the process of manufacturing tea and witness that how tea is graded. You may also taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the plantation.
Arrive at Nuwara Eliya which is the most popular hill resort of Sri Lanka. It is the main canter of Sri Lanka’s tea industry as it produces the best tea in the world. The highest mountain of Sri Lanka i.e. Pidurutalagala (8282 feet) is situated here only.
Nuwara-Eliya is having one of the excellent eighteen hole golf courses in South Asia.
Day 07 – Nuwara Eliya-Bentota
Drive to Bentota (06 HRS)
In the morning depart Nuwara Eliya for Bentota.
Arrive in Bentota, check in to the hotel.
Rest of the time is kept free to relax at beach.
Day 08 – Bentota
The day is kept free to relax at beach.
Day 09 – Bentota-Colombo-Departure
Drive to Colombo Airport (02 HRS) International Departure
At appropriate time, you will be transferred to Colombo international airport to embark the flight back to the onward destination. The tour will end here.
